October Nail Color Trends You'll See Everywhere in 2026
Follow The Pink Issue on Google.
October is when fall nail colors get deeper, earthier and a lot moodier, with deep burgundy, midnight blue, espresso brown, dark plum and glossy black taking over the darker end of the palette. Burnt orange and olive green bring in the obvious autumn tones, while suede taupe, dusty pink and milky mauve keep things from becoming one long parade of vampy polish. Ahead, these are the 10 October nail colors we're saving for 2026, plus the finishes, polish picks and nail-art ideas worth adding to your appointment.
1. Deep burgundy - October's default red
Burgundy's annual comeback is in full swing, and it's taken over Instagram and NailTok again. This month, the shade goes deep wine, with brown or purple undertones that give the red more richness than your summer cherry.

Full coverage or burgundy tips are both safe bets, finished glossy or chrome. For more detail, polka dots, aura fades, and animal print are all big for fall 2026, while spiderwebs and blood drips take it straight into spooky season. For color combos, cream and dusty pink soften it, while black takes it straight into Halloween mani territory.
Polish picks: Chanel Rouge Noir for the iconic blackened red, or Essie Shearling Darling for a dark burgundy.
2. Dusty pink - The pink that survives fall
The pink-nail obsession is year-round; October mani just calls for a dustier shade. Muted rose, antique pink and pink-beige keep the color in rotation with the saturation turned down. Pink tourmaline is also one of October’s birthstones, so birthday girlies have a calendar excuse.

A glossy crème is the easy route, but dusty pink looks just as good with a sheer finish, tonal Frenchies or darker accent art. Polka dots and fall florals keep it cute, while metallic detailing gives it a sharper edge. For color combos, burgundy makes it richer, espresso brown feels very current, and olive is the less expected contrast.
Polish picks: Zoya Frenchy for a muted rose, or ILNP CEO for a dusty pink with shimmery finish.
3. Midnight blue - the October alternative to black
Midnight blue is my rec for anyone who wants a dark fall mani but has worn black one too many times. Indoors it can pass for black, then daylight brings out the rich navy. It also has that old-money prep energy that looks right with a camel coat, plaid skirt and very good handbag.

A glossy dark blue set is never wrong, but this shade really comes alive with special finishes. Cat eye, velvet and fine shimmer pull the blue forward so it never reads near-black. Silver is the metallic to pair it with, and cream or butter yellow details add soft contrast.
Polish pick: Essie After School Boy Blazer, a deep navy crème.
4. Espresso brown - Fall's favorite neutral gets darker
Espresso takes brown nails to their deepest, richest shade, and I get why nail artists are calling it the new black. It brings the drama with a warmer feel and works with almost any fall wardrobe. Hailey Bieber wore a dark-brown set to Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2027 show in late September, so there’s your celebrity cosign.

Brown chrome and cat eye are my next picks if you’ve worn glossy crème to death. Espresso also works for Frenchies, tortoiseshell, polka dots, stripes and animal print, with gold detailing especially good against the dark base. Powder blue is still a favorite contrast, but cream, dusty pink and olive work just as well.
Polish pick: OPI Brown to Earth for a deep brown crème.
5. Dark plum - October’s witchy purple
Plum deserves a slot between your usual burgundy and brown appointments. It has the same rich depth as burgundy, but the purple shows up the second you hit daylight. It’s all over this month’s trend forecasts, and Kylie Jenner just put OPI’s near-black plum back in the spotlight.

Go jelly if you want the color to glow when light hits it, or opaque crème for that witchy depth. Plum loves gold detailing, chrome, cat eye or ribbed glass, and it's a great base for a Halloween-themed set. For a two-tone fall mani, pair it with mauve for a soft gradient or black for full spooky season.
6. Suede taupe - A richer neutral for sweater season
September taupe was all about that summer-to-fall crossover. October's version can get warmer and richer. Suede taupe sits between gray, brown and nude, giving you a neutral manicure that works with camel coats, denim, burgundy knits and dark brown accessories taking over fall wardrobes.

I'd go glossy rather than flat, then bring in texture through the design. Tortie shell, gold glitter, leaf or floral art and a magnetic finish all look excellent over it. Pair taupe with espresso for a tonal brown mani, or with beige for a softer set that still feels firmly fall.
7. Burnt orange - Pumpkin season, but make it chic
Burnt orange gets its annual October moment, and we're choosing shades with plenty of brown and red in the mix. Those undertones pull it toward terracotta, cinnamon and rusty brick red. Brick and terracotta are in this month’s mani forecasts too, so a glossy solid set covers the pumpkin-patch plans before you add any art.

Cat eye is my favorite finish here - the shimmer gives the orange a warm glow. Add a tiny pumpkin or jack-o’-lantern to one accent nail if you want the art to match the season. Espresso brown makes a rich fall pairing, olive keeps it earthy, and black takes the set straight into Halloween.
Polish picks: ORLY In The Conservatory for a dusty brick-red version.
8. Glossy Black - Halloween season has entered the chat
Black nails are a year-round option, but October is their championship season. Between Wednesday Addams energy, horror movie marathons and Halloween itself, a glossy black manicure is the most obvious and most correct choice of the month. It’s also the easiest way to look witchy at a party without adding a single accessory.

Ask for a clean cuticle line and a gel or gel-effect top coat for that glossy finish. Spiderwebs, bats, orange pumpkins and blood drips all work over black, while sheer black jelly gives you a smokier base. For less seasonal art, try stars, polka dots or lace - easy ways to wear black beyond spooky season.
9. Milky mauve - Soft glam shade for October
If the dark-nail takeover isn't your thing, mauve is your way into fall. That pink-purple undertone gives it way more seasonal depth than a regular milky manicure, and the glossy finish keeps the whole set feeling airy. Consider it the soft glam pick of the month.

Make it glow with chrome powder or a fine shimmer top coat, or go magnetic if you want a little movement without losing the softness. As a base, it's perfect for delicate line art, a scatter of tiny rhinestones or a subtle ombré. For a two-tone set, add brown: it anchors the mauve and turns the whole look properly autumnal.
Polish pick: Zoya Hebe for a soft mauve tint.
10. Olive green - The earth tone winning fall 2026
Fall 2026 is full of greens, from moss to khaki to forest, but olive is my October pick because it pulls double duty. It's seasonal enough to read as fall from across the room, yet low-key enough to wear like a neutral, and it plays just as well with cozy browns as it does with the darker Halloween palette.

A glossy olive mani needs nothing else, but cat eye and velvet finishes are where it shines, since the moving shimmer adds depth to that murky green. For art, try tortoiseshell, dirty martini olives, gold accents or tiny florals. Brown is the easy pairing, while burgundy gives you one of the biggest color combos of the season.
Polish pick: ORLY Don't Leaf Me Hanging for a mid-tone olive green.
The trendiest October nail finishes
October's darker colors are practically begging for magnetic polish. Cat-eye and velvet finishes work particularly well with espresso brown, olive, plum and midnight blue because the shifting shimmer stops those deep shades from reading flat. Ribbed glass can take the same magnetic base further if you want more texture.

Opal finish also deserves a spot in October since opal is one of the month’s birthstones. Look for sheer or milky formulas with iridescent shimmer, color-shifting flakes or a soft multichrome effect that flashes pink, blue, green and gold depending on the light. It works especially well as a full manicure, but you can also use it over milky mauve, dusty pink or sheer nude for a more subtle version.

Chrome is staying darker for fall: burgundy, brown, plum and black all work with reflective powders, while silver and gold chrome make more sense as hardware effect alongside October's main colors.

And then there is the least complicated option of all: a seriously glossy top coat over burgundy, espresso, plum or black. October already has plenty going on. Your manicure is allowed to simply be shiny and excellent.
